Making Sense of Your Vehicle Identification Number
Your 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number or VIN is unique to your vehicle. Here is how to interpret the significance of each letter or digit.
The first three digits make up the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI)
The first three digits make up the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI)
- Position one represents the nation of origin, or the final point of assembly. For instance, cars made in the U.S. start with 1,4 or 5, Canada is 2, Mexico is 3, Japan is J, Korea is K, England is S, and Germany is W.
- Position two tells you about the manufacturer. For example, A is for Audi, B is for BMW, L is for Lincoln and N is for Nissan.
- Position three indicates the vehicle's type or manufacturing division. For example, 1G1 represents Chevrolet passenger cars; 1G2, Pontiac passenger cars; and 1GC, Chevrolet trucks.
- Positions four through eight tell you about the car, such as the model, body type, restraint system, transmission type, and engine code.
- Position nine, the "check" digit, is used to detect invalid VINs based on a mathematical formula that was developed by the Department of Transportation.
- Position 10 indicates the model year. The letters from B-X correspond to the model years starting with 1981, with X bringing up the rear with 2000; model years 2001 and up are indicated with numbers, starting with the number 1. There is no I, O, Q, U or Z. Confusing? Here's a list of the model years: B=81, C=82, D=83, E=84, F=85, G=86, H=87, J=88, K=89, L=90, M=91, N=92, P=93, R=94, S=95, T=96, V=97, W=98, X=99, Y=00, 1=01, 2=02, 3=03, 4=04, 5=05, 6=06, 7=07, 8=08, 9=09, A=2010.
- The letter or number in position 11 indicates the manufacturing plant in which the vehicle was assembled. Each automaker has its own set of plant codes.
- The last 6 digits (positions 12 through 17) are the production sequence numbers. This is the number given to your car on the assembly line.

Contrary to appearances, Harte Infiniti did not sell ALL their cars over the weekend. We did however have to briefly move them off site to accomodate the re-surfacing of the lot.

Construction Update
Framing is coming along nicely on the new Harte Used Car Authority building, just down the way from 150 Weston Street.
Harte Infiniti Thanks The Englands !!
Sincere thanks to Mr. John England and his wife for preparing a delicious lunch for the dealership on Friday. The fare consisted of BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, home-made cole slaw, sweet and savory baked beans, and a spectacular macaroni & cheese. Everything was made with the care and attention that evokes thoughts of award-winning, traditional family recipes, and was most appreciated by all. Mr. England is our rep for Lubri-Care, the provider of BG lubricants for Harte Infiniti.

Rare Vehicle Alert ...Ebay Item # 180728396265
You are bidding on one of the true signature vehicles on the road today. This 2009 Infiniti FX50S was bought and serviced at our dealership. It has been meticulously maintained by an FX enthusiast, who recently traded it for the 2011 model. Once you have experienced the power, refinement, and sophistication of the FX50S, with all apologies to Porsche, there is no substitute !
2009 was a complete redesign year for the FX, the "Bionic Cheetah" that Infiniti debuted in 2003. It is a muscular, tall, sport SUV, with a 5.0 liter V8 that develops 390 hp and 369 lbs/ft of torque at 4400 rpm, delivered to the 7 speed, manually shiftable transmission, and eventually to the Intelligent All Wheel Drive System and 21 inch wheels with low profile tires. The "S" model of the FX50 also features active rear steering and adaptive dampers that further improve its rail-like handling. Electronic Vehicle Dynamic Control insures that the power is properly utilized. There is literally nothing else on the road that drives like this vehicle.
The combination of the curvy and straight lines of this vehicle tend to defy immediate classification. Is it retro ? Is it spaceage ?... or is it both. One thing is clear. It looks like if it wanted to, it could catch you and eat you ! New for 2009 are the active side vents, which actually work to reduce front end lift by five percent. The bi-xenon headlights articulate up to 30 degrees, and the rear LED tailights require no replacement for at least 100,000 hours. Do the math if you'd like.
The 2009 FX was also the first Infiniti to feature dual zone Advanced Climate Control. This system cycles between polypropal grape seed air purification, and ion dispersement, which removes not only odor, but also dust particles from the interior of the vehicle. It also senses noxious odors on the exterior of the vehicle and automatically closes the vents in response.
The seats in the FX50S are the Infiniti sport seats, which feature driver's side power adjustable hip and thigh bolsters, power lumbar support, and front thigh extenders for both driver and passenger. They are also both heated and electronically cooled. The drivers seat features two position memory settings that are remotely synched to the intelligent keyfob.

And if you care for electronics, get ready to be blown away. The Infiniti voice command navigation system is quite simply the most sophisticated, yet user friendly system on the market. The Bluetooth telephone system will accept up to five phones, each with voice dial capability and individual contact lists and phonebooks. Want a rearview camera ? How about four cameras placed around the vehicle which combine to give the driver a 360 degree view of the surroundings, and feature bendable predictive course lines and distance grids. There is also a sonar based parking assist. AV inputs will allow you to play DVDs or a portable gaming system through the front mounted 8 inch LCD touchscreen.

As for driving assist technology, there are few 2011 cars that even come close. Intelligent Cruise Control, active from zero to 100 mph will remotely modulate your cruising speed in relation to traffic. Distance Control Assist calculates closing rate, and will tap the brakes in the event that you are accelerating to quickly toward a moving object in front of you. Lane departure warning and prevention reads the lines on the road and will alert you if you stray without signaling. It is tempting to say that it could almost drive itself, but all of these assist systems can be disengaged so as to give full responsibility to the driver at any time. Afterall, when you can get from zero to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds, this is first and foremost a driver's vehicle.
And if you like to cruise with tunes (and who doesn't), the Bose system in the FX will make you want to take the long way home. Be sure to check out the picture of the massive subwoofer nestled in the spare wheel below the cargo area. The 11 speaker system can be sourced through a CD player, Satellite Radio, Ipod interface, or 9 gig Hard Drive Music Box that will allow you to upload up to four hours of music complete with song titles and artist information. Win the bid on this vehicle, and get ready to take your automotive experience to the next level !!

The Coming of Fall
As Autumn approaches, there are signs of the impending change of seasons all around 150 Weston street.
The Faces of Infiniti
The analog clock has always been a signature Infiniti component. Elegant and (pardon the expression) timeless, the Infiniti clock has graced the dashboard of Infiniti models since the inception of the brand. It is not difficult to believe that the people who represent Infiniti also have an appreciation for beautiful and functional timepieces. Here are a few faces that you might see around the dealership should you ask the question " What time is it ?"
